Odaimoku is the mantra, "Namu Myoho Renge Kyo." It means, "I devote and take refuge in the teachings of the Sutra of the Lotus Flower of the Wondrous Dharma.".
FAITH IN THE LOTUS SUTRA
Nikkyo Niwano, the founder and first president of Rissho Kosei-Kai, was greatly impressed about what he learned of the Lotus Sutra, especially two teachings.
1. The bodhisattva's path of compassion--helping others and serving everyone in the world--and
2. The ability of the lay follower to help release others from their suffering and to be liberated from their own suffering.
FOCUS OF PRACTICE
What is the Bodhisattva Way?
Bodhisattva Way is the path on which bodhisattvas engage in practice. It is a way to liberation.
Bodhisattva is a person who is devoted to attaining awakening not only personally but with all beings. Bodhisattva shares the teaching with others in the hope that others will also find liberation.
The Lotus Sutra is "a teaching that instructs bodhisattvas and that the buddhas protect and keep in mind."
