YOUTH RETREAT
IN JAPAN:
MARCHING FOR THE FOUNDER'S 120TH
2026 marks the 120th anniversary of Founder Nikkyo Niwano’s birth.
To honor this special occasion, young adults and youths from the United States
will take part in the Seitanchi Parade in Tokamachi, Niigata
—Founder Niwano’s hometown.
Let's show our pride, joy, and appreciation of being part of the Rissho Kosei-kai Sangha and
parade down the rural and beautiful natural countryside of Tokamachi City with other Japanese RK church groups, alongside a visit to the dynamic metropolis of Tokyo, home to the headquarters.

This is important for headcount purposes.
You do not need to have purchased your airfare yet in order to register.

Depart the USA on Oct 8 (Thu) and arrive in Japan on Oct 9 (Fri)

Depart Japan on Oct. 16 (Fri) and arrive in the USA on Oct 16 (Fri)

Please purchase your own round-trip airfare. We recommend arriving at Haneda Airport (HND).

We recommend traveling together as a group if multiple participants from your center are coming.

Please plan to arrive in Tokyo during the morning or afternoon of the 9th. We do not recommend arriving at night.

Locations: Japan (HQ in Tokyo & Tokamachi)

The program will begin at HQ. Upon arriving at one of the Tokyo airports, please proceed directly to HQ, where we will meet you and complete your check-in on Oct. 9th.

Lodging will be in communal rooms. In other words, you will be sharing a large room with other participants, sleeping on Japanese futons on the floor.

Goal: To march in the Seitanchi Parade on October 11, 2026, to celebrate Founder Niwano's 120th birthday anniversary and

Visit the HQ’s and interact with the Japanese members to deepen our faith.

We will be participating in the Seitanchi Parade, held in the city of Tokamachi, Niigata Prefecture. Tokamachi is the nearest big town to Founder Niwano's birthplace village of Suganuma.

There will be about 45 other groups marching in this parade. Most of them will be from Rissho Kosei-kai.

We will be joining in with another Japanese church that has kindly agreed to include us in their group. Matoi/Mando chants and parade music will differ from LA's Nisei Week, SF's Cherry Blossom, and HI's Honolulu Festival. More details coming.

Qualification:

Must be a member of a local Dharma Center.

Be Age: 21-40 yrs old and/or Minister's recommendation.

Be able to march in the parade twirling Matoi or playing musical instruments.

Estimated Price $3000.00 per person. This includes:

Round-trip airfare.

Two nights lodging in Tokamachi.

Round-trip transportation to Tokamachi via charter bus.

Additional Personal Travel:

If you plan to arrive in Japan before the program begins or stay after it ends, you are responsible for your own itinerary. Please consult with your local minister regarding accommodations for your additional travel plans.

Please note that RKINA can provide accommodations only for the official duration of the youth retreat program.
